Hi ! I set up this page in January '99, to tell people about products
available from LOCATIS, the Ramos Family
Business in Portugal. Jose Ramos is an old friend and GPSS contact of mine,
who pioneered use of GPSS in Portugal, including the testing of mapping,
translation of the speech to Portuguese, and getting some publicity
in magazines.
Jose had already supplied many of his Garmin Cables by mail order,
from as little as 10 GBP (15$US).
In January 1999 I agreed that they could also supply the cables with a copy
of GPSS. Since then, I have only had good reports from Happy Customers.
Please continue to keep me informed of your experience in buying LOCATIS
products. We hope, very soon, to arrange for
LOCATIS to supply the new GPSS CDROMs, described on the
CDROM Page instead of floppy disks.
The product information below will then be updated. Please check
with LOCATIS for latest status on products available, prices, etc.

The GPSS Web Site is on

The picture on the right shows what you should receive from LOCATIS, should
you decide to order the "Pack1" (Data Cable and GPS Software) from them at 25 GBP.
NOTE: LOCATIS WILL PROVIDE YOU INSTRUCTIONS TO USE THE CONTROL-R FORM AND PROVIDE HIM WITH THE DETAILS OF YOUR COMPUTER WHICH WILL BE USED WITH THE GPS. THEY WILL THEN GIVE YOU A MATCHING KEY CODE. THIS KEY CODE WILL ONLY WORK ON THAT SAME COMPUTER. SEE BELOW.
The DC9 cable is suitable to connect most Garmin GPS receivers to the 9 pin
COM1 port of a Laptop PC, or 9 pin serial port on your desktop PC.
This includes the Garmin GPS12, 12XL, 38, 40, 45, 48, II, II+, and III.
This then enables you to use the GPS with software such as
GPSS, available off the web site. Mapping for 111 countries, and speech
for voice guidance in 11 languages, is available free off the same web site.
You may want to suppress Snoopy after 12 months. For an additional 5 GBP, Jose will provide 'lifetime registration' of that same version of GPSS, with a code that will suppress Snoopy until 2099. For more information about Snoopy, see 'Software' below.
The options available from LOCATIS are:
You could download the same software off www.gpss.co.uk, but
it would be UNREGISTERED. This means it would still be fully functional,
but a Snoopy character would appear every 5 minutes, saying "hello",
and reminding you that the software was not registered. Jose provides
the registration key to suppress Snoopy until a later date. By that time you
will probably want to buy a later version than that, but if you want a 'lifetime
licence' for that version of GPSS, you can do so, at an additional 5 GBP, to extend
'Snoopy Supression' until 2099 - long enough for most people :-)
You may contact LOCATIS by e-mail, to discuss other options available, and how to arrange payment. To e-mail LOCATIS click on locatis@mail.telepac.pt
To place your order, e-mail LOCATIS, and specify your pack type (e.g. GPSSPACK1) and your postal address. Your pack will normally be shipped by airmail the next day.
Their postal address is:

PORTUGAL.
To give you the correct key code, LOCATIS needs you to do the following:
